Aircraft Registration
Building on the success of its shipping register, which has grown into the 8th largest world-wide and 2nd largest in Europe, Malta is committed to establishing itself as a leading aircraft register. A new Aircraft Registration Act, 2010 was drafted with a view to establish an adequate legal framework that would help create and effectively support a successful aviation register in Malta and consolidates the laws on registration of aircraft into a single act.
The Act provides for modern trends in aircraft ownership for business and private jets such as fractional ownership and ownership through trust structures and introduces a number of innovative concepts which make the Maltese Aviation Register competitive with the world’s leading aviation registers. It does this by limiting nationality and form requirements as much as possible in order to make the register accessible to as many owners and operator as possible, while ensuring that the register requirements comply with European legislation.
The Aviation Team at Fenech & Fenech offers a one-stop-shop service to its clients providing detailed advice in relation to the advantages of registration of an aircraft in the Maltese Registry to assistance in setting up the necessary corporate and tax structures required to operate the intended business.
