Double Tax Treaties with Ireland and UAE for Malta
May 20 2009
Malta recently added two double taxation treaties to its network of treaties, bringing the full complement of double tax treaties in force to 52. The jurisdiction has a very attractive holding and corporate tax regime and its treaty network is an important element.
The Double Taxation Relief (Taxes on Income) (United Arab Emirates) Order, 2009 published the treaty with the United Arab Emirates which has come into force retrospectively to 18 May 2007. The Double Taxation Relief (Taxes on Income) (Ireland) Order, 2009, brought the treaty with the Ireland into force with effect from 15 January 2009. Both treaties are by and large OECD-model based, with the UAE treaty including a Protocol making provisions in relation to a number of Articles.
